Show and Tell events are a super simple way to launch a Hub Group and get to know other creatives, or to catch up with those you've known for a while. They are especially helpful if your hubs contain creatives from across different Universities.
Show and Tells are a little bit like 'crits' you might have at Art School. People are invited to share recent or ongoing creative projects that they are working on, giving you all an insight into their practice, as well as allowing them to receive some constructive feedback and encouragement.
There are many ways you can adapt and host a Show and Tell. Perhaps you'd like to invite just two or three of your hub/creative CU to share their work, or you might want to invite everyone to share a short snippet of what they are up to!
If you feel it appropriate, you can use this as an opportunity as well to pray for each other and each other's work.
Possible Structure:
Adapt the structure however works for you - you also might want to consider eating together beforehand to make a nice evening of it!
> Welcome
> Invite first person to share their project/work
> Encouragements from the group (What did you like? What is working well?)
> Suggestions from the group (Are there areas that could be developed further? What isn't working as well as it could be?)
> How can we pray for you and your work?
Repeat this for however many who are sharing! Remember to get a good balance between encouragement and more critical feedback (the intention isn't to crush each other!).
Top Tips!
- Set a timer to make sure everyone gets an equal opportunity to share!
- Set up a screen or projector for anyone who wants to share digital work
- Encourage people to bring in their actual work (if they can!)
- Sharing your work can be daunting, so why not prepare people beforehand by giving them a set of questions to consider beforehand?
- It's helpful to have a host who can keep the timings and draw conversations to a close!
